A play about a church, alarm systems, dinosaurs and a lack of greater meaning
Using full masks, bold physicality and not a single spoken word, the Krumple tells the story of a small provincial church, which finds itself devoid of church-goers. The disillusioned priest battles with himself, God and his pillows as he falls deeper and deeper into an existential crisis. Three nuns unwittingly unleash the power of the internet, and with it their own ambitions and desires. To make matters worse, dinosaurs have appeared on Noah’s Ark and someone is plotting to burn down the church. Ranging from grotesquely comic to poignant, “Go to Sleep, Goddamnit!” explores the question: “What does one do when one's purpose has become obsolete?”
The show premiered at the Camden People's Theatre in August 2013, after a successful crowdfunding campaign through indiegogo.com. It was performed during The Camden Fringe Festival after a month of research and development in Norway. It was showed at Det Andre Teatret (Oslo), Frydenlund Teater (Gausdal), Tou Scene (Stavanger) and at the Showbox festival (Oslo). It toured Rogaland through Den Kulturelle Skolesekken, and had its US premiere at The Tank i New York City, as a part of their flagship series Flint and Tinder. It was then performed at Teaterfestivalen i Fjaler and at VÅRSCENEFEST in Tromsø.

Go To Sleep, Goddamnit! nous entraîne dans l’univers farfelu d’une petite église provinciale où le rituel de chaque jour se répète inlassablement en dépit de l’absence de visiteurs. Peu à peu le doute s’installe et les questions viennent s’immiscer dans les esprits. Un prêtre désillusionné va lutter vaillamment contre lui-même, Dieu et son oreiller, à mesure qu'il sombre dans une crise existentielle. Les choses vont de mal en pis lorsque les trois nonnes qui lui sont d'ordinaire dévouées, commencent à s'intéresser davantage aux dinosaures, à la science et aux ordinateurs. Avec des masques entiers, un jeu physique et sans un seul mot, la Krumple Theatre Company se pose cette question: que fait-on lorsque ce qui compte à nos yeux perd toute valeur?
Après une résidence en Norvège en juillet 2013, Go to Sleep, Goddamnit! a été créé au Camden People’s Theater, à Londres le 17 août. Le spectacle a ensuite été repris en Norvège, au Det Andre Teatret (Oslo), au Frydenlund Teater (Gausdal), au Tou Scene (Stavanger) au printemps 2014. L’année suivante, Go to Sleep a tourné dans le Région de Rogaland avant de partir aux Etats-Unis pour une série de représentations à New York dans la programmation de Flint&Tinder au Tank Theater. Le spectacle a été joué dans le cadre du festival de théâtre de Fjaler, et le festival VÅRSCENEFEST en Norvège.
